Wickenburg Mountains / Bradshaw Grave
January 27, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 9:00 pm MST
Come join us for an awesome historical off-road adventure tour on a fun and challenging trail departing from Wickenburg, AZ. We will visit Bradshaw’s Grave, Copperopolis, Annie White’s Grave, and some historic structures. We will trek many types of terrains such as well-maintained dirt roads, narrow shelf roads, washes, and beautiful canyons. There is beautiful scenery this time of year and we will discover a lot of rich AZ mining history along the way. Our journey will end near Lake Pleasant, making for a shorter and easier ride home for most. We will stop for lunch at one of many scenic spots overlooking the natural beauty of the AZ desert in some very remote canyons.
This is a great trail perfect for both novice and experienced drivers alike. This trail is rated RED, and I have done it recently and many off-camber washouts gave it this rating. I did not need a spotter but there are a couple of spots it would have been nice. There are several tight turns over washed-out areas where those of us with long wheelbases will drag, so be prepared. This trail will require 35” tall tires at a minimum for a Gladiator. Others should be ok due to the shorter wheelbase. There are some ledges but no real rock obstacles to conquer here. With that said, there are some side obstacles if we choose to partake along the way. This trail will require you to pay attention to tire placement and there will be plenty of help should anyone need it.
We will meet on the west side of Filliberto’s, which will be on your right as you enter Wickenburg for a prompt 9:00 AM departure. This can be a slow trail, so we need to get moving. There is gas here so everyone can top off. If you’re running late for whatever reason, please contact me directly at 928-607-7763, or post in the comments/chat section of the event and we will wait for you. Please make sure to remove yourself from the event if you’re unable to attend!
The weather will be cold for us Phoenicians in the morning but should be perfect in the afternoon. We will keep an eye on the weather before the trip as these canyons wash out and can flood quickly. Please plan accordingly and bring weather-appropriate gear and don’t forget your safety equipment, cameras, and radios.
Wickenburg Mountains is a fun trail spanning about 21 miles of trail with 29 miles of backroads. The trail starts at about 2200 feet in elevation and peaks at 4500’. The route is part of the great mining history of AZ. Most of the trail is easy to moderate except for about 5 miles total of a 5-difficulty rating. Make sure you have rock sliders and skid plates. The trail is passable in a stock Jeep with careful spotting but a 2.5-inch lift with 33+ inch tires is highly recommended. Again, for the Gladiators 35’s are needed because of our length.
If you’ve never been, this is a fun historic area to explore and will keep us busy for a long day, expect 8+ hours and please plan accordingly!
